Viewing Saved Animated GIFs

Most older computers easily display animated GIFs along with still pictures in a "photo gallery" from their operating system. However neither Vista or Leopard currently support animated GIFs.

Here are some options for viewing the animated GIFs:

You can open the images one at a time with a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

You can open them with a media player like QuickTime.

To view multiple images you can download a free Image reader such as Irfan.

To open an image with a specific program in Windows XP:
Right click on an image, then click on Open With. A list of recommended programs that are installed on your computer and will appear. Note: although some such as programs Photoshop, Paint will open animated GIFs, it will be the first frame only. Other programs will open an animated GIF as a series of frames.

To set default program to open images in Windows XP:
You can set one program to open all images of a specific type (JPG, GIF etc).

Right click on an image and select Open With. You'll see a list of programs that are installed on your computer that are able to open that type of image. Ignore them and scroll to the bottom and select Choose Program, then click on your choice of program, or search the web for a better program and install it.
